Comic Book Style Illustrator - Freelance Cartoonist Portfolio

Read About This Freelance Comic Book Style Cartoonist for Hire

As a freelance cartoonist for hire, I offer cartooning services in a comic book style. This cartoon portfolio is dedicated to comic book art and illustration I created for a variety of clients and projects where I performed all the tasks from initial sketch and character design through the final color illustration.

Comic books began in the 1930’s. Most would think of comic book art as a child’s cartoon magazine telling a story using talk balloons and multiple cartoon panels. This is a partial description. When I think of comic book illustration, I think of a “style” of cartooning that has become widely popular and was perfected by famous artists like Jack Kirby. It is also a style of cartooning that has become synonymous with “superheroes”. The superhero concept lends itself perfectly with illustrating messages of excelling individuals and superior performance. So the use of the comic book style cartooning is perfect for advertising and promotion.

Although I do not write or illustrate comic “Books” per se, I illustrate in a comic book style of cartooning and have illustrated superheroes and comic book pages. Comic book style illustration is a form of cartoon illustration that I really enjoy doing. It takes years to master this style. Comic book illustration is often performed by a team of illustrators working in a variety of roles such as pencilers, inkers, and colorists. So it takes years to master this style of illustration because a single artist is trying to perfect what usually takes many artists to accomplish… or … one artist a lifetime of dedicated practice to the exclusion of all other freelance cartooning styles of illustration.

Allied Construction Postcards as Comic Book Covers

As a freelance cartoonist for hire I was approached by a construction company wanting to create some illustrated postcards they could mail to a list of potential customers each week that would stand out from the usual junk mail.

We decided on comic book style illustrated postcards using the concept of comic book covers that would advertise the benefits of hiring their construction company. This advertising campaign consisted of mailing a different comic book cover postcard each week over four consecutive weeks.

Allsup Comic Book Poster and Advertisements

This was a great project for a freelance cartoonist for hire! Allsup is a company that specializes in disability services. They have proprietary software (aptly called Empower) that makes it easy for individuals to apply and receive the disability benefits they both need and deserve. So what better concept to advertise these services than a comic book story called Empower and superheroes to inform and come to the rescue?

Allsup created an advertising campaign that included different superheroes to represent different team members so we began with character design services of the comic book heroes. Then we illustrated a comic book style poster featuring our comic book heroes to build intrigue for the upcoming advertising campaign. And finally, each advertisement was a single comic book style page that educated, informed, and empowered an individual to easily solve the application process using Allsup’s expert services and proprietary software. Captain Sandy Superhero and Side Kicks

Captain Sandy is a real-life super yacht captain who currently is featured on a Reality TV Show on the Bravo Network called Below Deck Mediterranean.

After successfully airing for a few seasons, Captain Sandy has developed a number of dedicated fans and wants to use the celebrity this reality show gives her to create a future animated series featuring Captain Sandy and other characters. Her initial concept was to use comic book superheroes and approached this freelance cartoonist for hire to help her develop them. Below is the result of our initial character design project.

Deloitte Consulting Comic Book Style Magazine Advertisements

Deloitte approached this freelance cartoonist for hire to do create two ads advertising their free book giveaway called “Profitable Growth in a Downturn”.

As a company that prides itself on innovation, thinks out of the box, and is always ahead of the competition, Deloitte Consulting’s idea to use comics in their business advertising was genius.

Unfortunately this project was short-lived due to their concern that custom illustration might appear as extravagant compared to the usual stock photography during an economic recession. You can read more about this project in my blog article: “Using Comic Page for Business Advertising“. The two comic book style illustrations can be seen below.

Superhero Character Design and Freelance Comic Book Style Illustration

Superhero characters have enjoyed popularity with comic book fans for decades and are now enjoying mainstream popularity because of the many block-buster movies featuring comic book characters brought to life by Marvel, DC, Disney, Sony and other entertainment giants. I know I have been a tremendous fan of comic books, comic book style artwork, their powerful characters, imaginative stories, and their overall huge entertainment value in the past, present, and undoubtedly future.

In this freelance cartoonist’s portfolio, I have highlighted how some businesses have included comic book style illustration and superhero characters into their marketing efforts. If you have a need for a freelance cartoonist, give me a call. I would love to help you with the superhero character design and comic book style illustration to bring your projects to life!
